After the material to be dried is frozen, it undergoes drying in a vacuum chamber. Unlike traditional methods, initial drying involves sublimation, necessitating higher vacuum levels. In the initial stage, liquid solvents, such as water, transform into gas due to the thermal energy provided by heating plates. This is followed by a secondary drying phase that further reduces residual water content, carried out under low pressure.

Requirements for Vacuum during the Process: For the freeze-drying process, the pressure must be lower than the triple point of the solvent used (e.g., water). Additionally, unwanted substances like oxygen are removed from the drying chamber during vacuum evacuation. While the operating pressure typically ranges between 0.5 hPa and 1*10-2 hPa during primary drying, higher pressures are employed during secondary drying or during the adjustment of the drying chamber.
